I'd like to target higher than 60fps on a new build, and maybe 1440p, but this is extreme end hardware, running at medium settings on the game, and doesn't even hit 144fps on the best commercial hardware out there. The 3700X does have a lot better workload performance but for a strictly gaming rig I don’t feel it’s worth the extra 130$. It’s interesting to note that the 3900X was 6% faster than the 3600 with the RX 5700 and that margin only grew to 8% with the RTX 2080 Ti as we weren’t far off being CPU bound even with the RX 5700 at 1080p.We see a mere 5-10 fps drop at 1440p from ultra to high and again this had no real impact on margins and we’re still seeing the same odd scaling between the RTX 2070 Super and RX 5700.Moving in the opposite direction we have one of the best case scenarios for Ryzen in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I'm using Premiere Pro. Then it was 7% faster on average with the 2070 Super and 11% faster on average with the 2080 Ti.The last game tested is Rainbow Six Siege.
All configurations were tested with an RTX 2080 Ti, 32GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 memory and a Corsair Hydro H150i Pro 360mm AIO liquid cooler. As a result the 10600K was just a few frames slower than the 10700K and 10900K, while it beat the 3700X by a 5% margin.Despite increasing the resolution to 1440p we see basically the same margins, this time the 10600K was 6% faster than the 3700X and 7% faster than the 3600.Then we see that the manual 5.1 GHz overclock using 1.35v boosted the Cinebench score to 4039 pts, a further 5% performance bump.Performance at 1440p is again strong, though as expected the margins do close up but even so the 10600K is still 8% faster than the 3700X.AES encryption performance in SiSoftware is also very similar to that of the 8700K as the 10600K provided a throughput of 13 GB/s, making it 35% slower than the 3700X.The overclocked results are not as impressive in Rainbow Six Siege, here we’re gaining just a few extra frames on average, though we do see an 8% increase in 1% low performance, so a fairly decent performance uplift still.Finally we have Shadow of the Tomb Raider where we see a 6% boost in 1% low performance with a few extra frames on average. Here the R5 3600 falls off a little with the 2070 Super and RX 5700 at 1080p, which is odd as it didn’t struggle nearly as much with the RTX 2080 Ti. 2ª get *16gb ram for gaming and streaming(The other side note is, great thing about am4, if you feel in 2 years you’ve outgrown your cpu, you can go 3900x, 3950x, or even the new 4700, 4900, 4950 and keep your entire setup the same but get massive multi core upgrade. Using the RX 580, the 9900K was 1% faster than the 3900X, so within the margin of error and needless to say they both delivered the same gaming experience with that particular GPU that is underpowered for the modern high-end CPUs. For 144 Hz gamers even the 3600 was good for over 170 fps at all times when using a very fast GPU where is most of the load resides.For those playing at lower quality settings we saw the 9900K enjoy a 5% performance advantage with the RX 5700 using the medium quality settings. Testing with Far Cry New Dawn at 1080p sees a frame rate boost of 12% and this was enough to put the 10600K on par with the 10700K and 10900K.Jumping over to the Gears Tactics we see that at 1080p, using an RTX 2080 Ti, the 10600K is able to match the 10700K, placing it within 1-2fps of the 10900K.
