After hiking 0.3 miles from the previous trail junction, you'll reach a junction for the spur trail to the Apache Vista. Ideal for mountain biking, very smooth hard packed dirt, very few Rocky spots. well maintained and marked. The Canyon Lake Vista was beautiful. Apache Wash Paseo. Enjoyed 11 Hot Air Balloons in the area too. Turn left off of Sidewinder to proceed to Apache Vista Trail. The area is a maze of trails but all junctions were well marked.Easy trail, lots of bikes and not much climbing. The drive is a little scary with windy roads and one lane bridges, but it is so worth the views. The Apache Trail, also known more officially as Arizona State Route 88, is a 40-mile drive starting in Apache Junction and ending at Theodore Roosevelt Dam. Can be made a bit shorter or not.
The trail is in good shape, so you won't have to worry about stubbing toes or twisting ankles on the way. We added a piece of the Sidewinder Trail to stretch it out a bit. I went right and this description follows that direction. after 0.35 miles, stay left at the junction with the Apache Wash Trail. Turn left onto the Ocotillo trail, the trails marked to allow for easy navigation. The climb up to Apache Vista is steady and fairly easy.
Elevation high point: 1,982 feet. The loop begins from the north-east end of the parking lot near the restrooms. Ridgeback Trail. Turn right (JCT 3R on the map) to take the Sidewinder trail generally East. The road is very winding, with switchbacks and sharp turns, so amateur drivers should take caution. Weekends or early mornings are big for mountain bikers so be prepared to share the trail (occasional horses too)!Love this trail!

After 0.35 miles of hiking, stay left at the junction with the Apache Wash trail (JCT 1L on the map). McAllister Park Trailhead Buckhorn Rd. Please be polite and move to the side to let these folks pass so we can all continue to share access to this area.From the parking area, Turn left onto the Octotillo trail. Start at the Apache Wash Trailhead and follow the Apache Wash Loop signs for a counter-clockwise loop ending with a short segment of the Ocotillo Trail.This route can also be taken clockwise starting with the Ocotillo Trail then turning on to the Apache Wash Loop. You'll be heading directly for Apache Vista. it is a big loop, but you can as we did take one of several offshoots that cut across to the other side of the loop to shorten the full loop which if you go the long way is about 3 hours. From the top of the Ridgeback overlook, it's just under a mile to the signed junction with the Sidewinder trail. Saguaro, prickly pear, and barrel cactus abound. When you reach the trail junction with Apache Wash (JCT 5L on the map), turn left here. Great for a beginnerLots of people in the parking lot but it didn’t feel busy out on the trail. The trail gains elevation here, but the ascent is gradual.
