As for the storage speed test, the speedy SSDs all fall within the same range. It was a bit more flexible than many users liked, though, bending especially when you lifted the laptop from the bottom.
One of my clearest takeaways is that the Zephyrus G14 is simply a pleasant laptop to look at and use. This laptop was the best performer (or tied for the best) in all three benchmarks, in a smaller chassis than all but the Blade 13 and with the lowest price tag.
It’s built into the power button, though there is no indication there. The Zephyrus is proof of it. It basically removes the lock screen, which made using it feel totally seamless, with the exception that I needed to hold my finger there for about a second to ensure it worked. Still, you can see that it’s a marked improvement over the GTX 1660 Ti in the MSI laptop, and these are good scores, even if they don’t stack up to the top of Nvidia’s offerings. Motion was so smooth on this display it feels close enough to playing on our premium gaming monitor. And when we say there are many ports, we mean there are many. It has gamer-like angled vents, big keycaps and an irritating power connection placement -- in the middle of the left side, where the cord can block the HDMI and USB-C port -- perhaps.Starting with its Zen architecture, AMD CPUs have routinely outperformed their Intel equivalents for multicore operations (like rendering video and generating thumbnails), so no surprise there. It sits firmly in the upper middle power tier, superior to plenty of gaming machines on the market but below the fastest powerhouses.
For music, I found the Detailed equalizer added a bit of snap to the drums, but was otherwise not a huge difference.From the system, you can use the back to show the date, time, your battery life or how many emails you have.
Summary: The Zephyrus G14 slots in a niche of its own, somewhere between compact ultrabooks and performance 15-inch ultraportables, as the best 14-inch notebook of the moment.
