This hike through dense forests and grassy meadows is all thanks to preservation efforts in the 1960s and 1970s. Nice park and only 30 mins from downtown Brooklyn.Lots of Scarlet Tanagers, one Summer Tanager, Cedar Waxwings, Hooded Warblereasy trail with some muddy spots and few ticksNice shade. If you go up that way, you will see the Mets John Franco's house on the left. The upper parts between Willowbrrok park, Latourette and the ravine are the most secuded and enjoyable of the White trail. Take the Yellow trail and go to Moses' Mountain (Incredible view). This was a fun enjoyable 7 mile hike thru the Staten Island Greenbelt. You can also stop in at the Greenbelt Nature Center.it is nice, but it is not too big, it is very easy to walk.Hard to find entrance but very well marked when inside. The west portion of the white trail is also excellent for mountain biking (Hylan Blvd to end of Egbertville Ravine). There are many other trails to choose from.

The lower section are very close to roads so you will hear cars going by.You can continue another 1.5 miles to the very end of Great Kills park if you wanted to make this an 8.5 mile hike.
