Verizon’s brand-new LTE network makes up for that and takes a bounding leap over AT&T in the process, but that’s of little consolation to webOS fans who don’t currently have a 4G smartphone looming on the horizon.Lastly on the software front: Verizon saw something right in the world and seems to have decided that the Pre 2’s GPS didn’t have to be crippled like the Verizon Pre Plus. And what we get is an experience that is not in need of overclocking, nor underclocking as the Pre 2 dynamically throttles down the processor when full power is not needed. The Pre functions as a camera phone and a portable media player, and has location and navigation capabilities. No matter how smooth you thought the Pre’s screen was, this is smoother. Prodigal daughter returns in 2017. They’ll know you’re on a phone, but the sheer convenience of having Skype on-the-go and so well integrated into webOS simply can’t be topped.Up front is where the real action is. One additional benefit to the glass screen: when wearing polarized sunglasses the screen no longer appears awash in iridescent waves (though it does still darken considerably in landscape mode). We’ve already reviewed webOS 2.0 in depth, and sadly, more than five months after we first reviewed the operating system, the Pre 2 on Verizon is shipping with the same software.
And we're pleased to say that it works as well as ever, even if it does take some getting used to after being locked on with a full touchscreen. If that sounds overly negative then we're sorry, but we were hoping for big innovations from the Palm Pre 2, especially with webOS thrown into the mix. 11/02/2017, 07:24 AM. When it comes to video, the Pre 2 is really no better than the older Pre phones. And the focus of our criticism still centres around build quality. We like its overall shape, though its design is a bit dated now, but it’s easy to hold and feels comfortable in the hand.
It's fun, but far from cutting edge.First off, it's been a while since we've had a WebOS device in for review, so it was really great to have one back in our hands. Does it take fantastic pictures? Consumers generally think that good quality hardware = good product, and if Palm/HP continues to produce phones that are lacking in the hardware department,...Overall, there is a lot to like about the Palm Pre 2. Vertical scrolling is still there (which many people disliked) but if you only have three rows of apps on each page, you can eliminate the need to do this (although three rows does leave a bit of a gap at the bottom, whereas four doesn't quite fit within the display).Overall, this is a nice, slick little smartphone that performs well, and offers a number of unique features (such as gesture control and Synergy) that first got us excited by the Palm Pre back in 2009. You've only got 16GB of storage though, which beats many of the new Windows Phone 7 handsets, but you don’t get the option to expand this memory.webOS 2.0 also brings improvements to Synergy (which integrates all of your web-based contacts into one place) Text Assist and the Launcher. Now scroll to Device Info. It’s not the fastest, biggest, thinnest, or newest phone on the market. It does weigh in a little heavier than its older brother though - but only around 10g more at 145g, making it still a very lightweight and compact device. And whilst this is true, don't expect it to work seamlessly. It's smoother, faster and scrolling and text rendering is much cleaner.
The simple answer is this: it didn’t have to. So, you could be on a Twitter app and click a link, and the browser page would be added to this stack. We actually had to go our and buy this phone ourselves, as HP wasn’t going to give us a review unit. - Price is spectacularly low for an unlocked phone without a service plan.
Of course, there are only so many improvements that can be made while sticking with the same Pre form factor and frame. We aren’t about to put it to a harsh key scratch test, but trust us: this stuff is good. It deserves its moment in the spotlight, not a press released followed by what amounted to a footnote in the announcement presentation of other products months later. Because of this, the Pre 2 is a tough sell and is mostly targeted to current Pre Plus users that are looking for an upgrade and want to stay with the webOS experience. Far from being a total overhaul of the previous OS, 2.0 brings with it a number of impressive new features, the pick of the bunch being stacks. The keyboard is still very fiddly. Multi-tasking has always been the Palm Pre's strong point and on the Pre 2 it is even better. The Skype user on the other end usually had a better microphone and speakers than they would with a phone, so the audio received on both ends may not have been truly indicative of the quality of the connection. No apologies. There are a few Verizon-specific apps on deck: First up, we have VZ Navigator and Mobile Hotspot (technically not a Verizon exclusive, but included out-of-the-box due to the availability of tethering plans).
Palm users spend 2-3x less time on social media and email, and way more time listening to music.
