AMD hasn’t clarified which one it will use, but considering it used TSMC’s standard 7nm node for its RDNA GPUs, it’s expected to use the N7P nodelet — a mid-point between the standard 7nm node and the more advanced 7nm EUV design.RDNA 2 is the second generation of AMD’s RDNA architectural design, and like its Zen CPU architectures, it represents a dramatic shift in not only raw performance but performance scalability for successive generations. RDNA 2 is set to power the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5’s next-generation gaming experiences, and rumors suggest the desktop counterparts could be monstrously powerful. With no huge need to cut back on the power draw of its high-end cards, RDNA 2 could deliver a big boost to raw graphical performance in the high-end cards.According to AMD, the major advances in this generation of GPU will come through improvements in instructions per clock, an enhancement of its logic — which streamlines the design through reducing complexity — and enhanced clock speeds. The 5700 XT was around 30% faster than the Vega 64.The GPU will reportedly be paired with as much as 16GB of high-speed memory, most likely GDDR6, though HBM2E is also a possibility.Microsoft said earlier this year that its RDNA 2-powered Xbox Series X would offer as much as 12 TFLOPs of computing power. It needs to be picture-perfect, and it’s safe to assume that they’ll introduce a deep-learning engine like Nvidia has done with their ray tracing hardware. Considering that, along with some of the high-specification rumors (see below), we’d expect the first RDNA 2 graphics cards to be expensive. AMD CEO Lisa Su shared in the company’s second-quarter earnings call that its Zen 3 processors and RDNA 2 graphics cards are still set to release later …
It would be better if AMD had just omitted the comparisons. However, the latest leaks for the driver code suggest that RDNA 2 will use HBM, something AMD didn’t shy away from in the past. The core of this leak takes three slides from an alleged AMD presentation about what appears to be their flagship 6900 XT card. This may seem promising, but it feels a little too good to be true. One of the biggest reasons why this information should be taken with a grain of salt is that AMD looks to very competitive with Nvidia in this generation and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have an objectively more expensive memory when they’re looking at every possible nook and cranny to find that competitive edge. This number seems to be exclusive for PC models, as Sony and Microsoft have already announced 56 and 52 computing units for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, respectively.
However, GDDR6X isn't under production or listed by any of the major DRAM manufacturers (which could be due to an NDA with the GPU companies) so we would have to take that information with a grain of salt.As for the manufacturing and design process, AMD is stated to not have finalized its Big Navi PCB design yet.
